In the meantime, more than 700 randomized controlled studies are available, which prove the positive effects of exercise also in cancer patients. Knowing what type of exercise, with what frequency, duration and intensity, will produce the best health effects is important for fitness instructors and physical therapists working with people affected by cancer. Based on current scientific data, new exercise recommendations for cancer sufferers were published by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) in late 2019. These are presented here in summary form.
